MANCHESTER City legend Dennis Tueart is credited with scoring the goal that was named the greatest moment in Football League history.

It came in the 1976 League Cup Final at Wembley when Tueart's acrobatic overhead kick gave City victory over Newcastle United.

More than 20,000 people voted for the moment in a competition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Football League.

Tueart was born in Newcastle and began his football career playing for Sunderland. He joined City in 1974 and was integral to the success of the team, particularly the 1976 League Cup Final.

Tueart is one of the most celebrated city players of the 1970s, alongside Francis Lee, Mike Summerbee and Colin Bell.

Tueart moved to the US in 1978 to join the New York Cosmos. He was named man of the match during the 1978 Soccer Bowl for his goals against Tampa Bay. …
