"BLACK PANTHER" WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT BOX OFFICE RACE

NEW YORK (AP) _ Black equals blue. That's about the most succinct way to wrap up the weekend's box office news. "Black Panther" has captured the number-one sport for the fifth-straight week. It's the first time since 2009 that a movie has won for five consecutive weekends. The last movie to do that -- "Avatar" The James Cameron saga about the fictional inhabitants of a blue-tinged world. Black Panther -- directed by Ryan Coogler -- took in another 27-million dollars in ticket sales over the weekend. That nudges its domestic haul to 605.4-million dollars. Globally, "Black Panther" has topped the 1-billion dollar mark.

BOX OFFICE RACE

NEW YORK (AP) _ We know "Black Panther" has dominated the box office scene for more than a month now. But what about other movies trying to make headway with audiences at the Cineplex? Though "Black Panther" has handled all the competition thrown its way so far, this past weekend saw it pitted against the latest reboot of "Tomb Raider." The movie had a 90-million dollar budget and Alicia Vikander, instead of Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. But what it didn't have going for it: good reviews. It got mediocre marks from Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore. And movie audience seemed to agree. Tomb Raider earned 23.5-million dollars in its first weekend, just over 3-million dollars off the pace set by "Black Panther."

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Matt Damon has spent a lot of time in Australia lately. And he supported 2016 Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton. But a publicist for the actor says there's no truth to talk that Damon is planning to move Down Under. And since that isn't true, the publicist says it also isn't true that Damon is leaving the U-S because he's angry at President Donald Trump.
