Tarasenko Likely to Miss Game against Bruins

Article excerpt

Forward Vladimir Tarasenko did not practice with the Blues on Tuesday and coach Mike Yeo said he was doubtful for the team's game Wednesday against Boston.

"We were hopeful that he was going to be able to come to the rink and practice today," Yeo said, "and once we determined that wasn't going to happen … I would say he's doubtful for tomorrow."

This would be the second full game missed by Tarasenko, who also missed the final two periods of the game with the New York Rangers on Saturday with what the team has called an upper-body injury. Tarasenko took a hit to the head on the first shift of that game and finished out the period, but didn't return. He accompanied the team for their game in Chicago on Sunday but didn't play.

Alexander Steen moved into Tarasenko's spot on the top line with Brayden Schenn and Jaden Schwartz in practice on Tuesday, another sign Tarasenko isn't expected to play since it involves reassembling a set of lines that Yeo has become happy with.

"That's what we did last game during the game," Yeo said. "We started one way (with Ivan Barbashev in Tarasenko's spot) and then after the first period we shifted some things around and liked the way things looked after that."

Tarasenko leads the team in goals with 27 and is second in points with 58. The Blues won both games over the weekend with Tarasenko playing only one period, but in the long run, that doesn't seem too promising a situation for a team fighting for a playoff spot.

"Obviously we'd love to have him in the lineup," Yeo said. "We know what he is and what he means for our team so it's no question, it's a significant loss, but we don't have the opportunity or even the possibility for our team to sit around and think about what could be right now. We have to look at the group we have and we believe we still have a capable group."

Also not practicing on Tuesday were goalie Carter Hutton and defenseman Robert Bortuzzo. Yeo said Hutton skated with goalie coach David Alexander prior to practice and was getting closer. …
