InterBox lands heavyweight prospect Makhmudov

MONTREAL - A tug-of-war over promotional rights to highly regarded heavyweight boxing prospect Arslanbek Makhmudov took another turn with the announcement Thursday that the Russian has signed with InterBox.

The Montreal promoter said it inked a deal with the six-foot-six Makhmudov and hopes to get him onto a fight card April 7 in Quebec City.

Two weeks ago, Montreal promoter Groupe Yvon Michel announced it had acquired rights to Makhmudov through a deal with the management company Esmir. However, Esmir then said it had ended its relationship with the fighter.

A message on social media under Makhmudov's name denied he had signed with GYM and then blasted the promoter for its handling of top talent like former middleweight champion David Lemieux and rising welterweight Custio Clayton, who left to join rival promoter Eye Of The Tiger Management, which bought InterBox last year. …
