The Met Office has issued a 'yellow warning' for snow for much of northern England. It came into force at 3am this morning.

The warning covers eastern parts of the region, including Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside and Stockport.

Caption ghghgh gh ghgh gh ghgh gh ghgh ghghgh gh Up to 10cm of snow is possible on higher ground and temperatures could fall to 3C, forecasters say.

The warning says the flurry could cause travel disruption and some rural communities could be cut off. Power cuts are also possible.

In a statement, the Met Office said: "As a weather system moves in from the south and comes up against cold air over the UK, rain will turn to heavy snow, mainly on high ground. …
