$3.6 MILLION GRANT TO HELP BUY BUSES

The Port Authority has received a $3.6 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration to help buy new buses.

The grant announced Thursday would be enough to buy seven 40-foot diesel buses, but the agency won't know whether it will be used to offset the cost of buses purchased recently or applied to its next purchase until it knows when it will receive the funds, spokesman Adam Brandolph said.

The agency usually replaces buses when their service reaches 12 years or 500,000 miles. It has received 75 new vehicles in the past six months.
