In response to the letter from Cassie Ruane, representing the Book Group of The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (April 2, "Jesus' Life Was for All"): While I agree that Jesus' life is for all and that God wants all of us to have eternal salvation, I disagree with the claim that there is no litmus test for salvation.

In addition to Jesus' own words that "No one comes to the Father except through me," the Bible states clearly in Romans 10:9-10: "if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation." Also, in John 3:16-17: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. …
