ROCHDALE climbed off the bottom of League One with a commanding 3-0 defeat of Walsall.

Goals from Jimmy McNulty - his first strike in the league in six years - Ian Henderson and Alex Dobre gave Dale a first league win in four.

Keith Hill's side cut the gap to third-tier safety to nine points with four games in hand on nearby rivals.

They hit the front on 16 minutes, McNulty rising highest at a corner and his header looping across goal to nestle in the bottom left.

The hosts had the better of the first-half chances, Josh Lillis scrabbling to save a Kieron Morris shot that bounced awkwardly.

Hill's men went into the break under the pump as George Dobson forced Lillis into a low stop to his right with a well-struck 20-yarder.

The interval punctured Walsall's momentum with Ryan Delaney again breaking free of his man at a corner and heading over. …
