A LATE fightback from Halifax denied Swinton a first Betfred Championship win of the season at The Shay.

The Lions took the lead inside the first five minutes when Andy Thornley touched down a Jack Hansen grubber kick into the in-goal area, converted by Chris Hankinson.

Fax hit back after 30 minutes, but Stuart Littler's side took a two-point lead in at half-time.

It was extended soon after the break through a Hankinson penalty and Marcus Webb try, but that was as good as it got for the visitors.

Their lead was cut back to two points once more when Halifax scored on the hour mark and the home side crossed twice in the final five minutes to secure an 18-12 victory.

Leigh ran in 13 tries as they continued their recent resurgence with a comprehensive 72-20 away victory at Sheffield.

By the time the Eagles scored their first a minute before half-time, the visitors had already touched down nine times, putting them well on course for a fifth successive league win under caretaker coach Kieron Purtill. …
