City Women in Hunt for European Success

THE trophy cabinet at City is a full one. Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, European Cup Winners' Cup, FA Youth Cup, FA WSL trophy, Continental Cup and the Women's FA Cup, they've won it all down the years.

But, one accolade has evaded all City teams - the top European trophy.

And, while the men's Champions League campaign is over, City Women have reached the semi-final for the second consecutive year and are determined to make club history.

The men's team and teams, we are a whole Izzy "The moment I signed for this club, the feeling I got was that I was welcome and that everyone belongs," City midfielder Izzy Christiansen told M.E.N. Sport.

"The men's team, our team and the youth teams, we are all part of a whole project, it's the whole club which is striving to be better and be the best team in Europe, and it would be amazing if we could bring the club their first Champions League trophy."

Having watched Pep Guardiola's side dominate in the Premier League, Christiansen explained they will be using their male colleagues as inspiration for success in the two-legged semifinal.

"The football they have played this season has been sublime and we take inspiration from them on a daily basis on the way they have been performing week in, week out," Christiansen explained.

"It's a travesty they have been knocked out of the Champions League, but we have learnt so much from their humility this season."

Such is the togetherness at the club, the England international joked City Women had inspired Guardiola to his first Premier League trophy.

"We have had a few conversations with Pep this season," Christiansen explained. "I know he drives past our training pitch and he slows down to watch us, so maybe it's us that inspired him to a Premier League title! It's a very exciting club to be around and we just constantly strive for better, the aim for the men and the women is the same and we want to be the best in Europe. …
