1952: A precedent was established when 65 leaders of Pittsburgh industry and business pledged financial support to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. They approved a novel plan under which companies were to be designated sponsors with contributions of $10,000 annually.

1995: "Miss Pittsburgh," an open-cockpit high-wing airplane, was put on display at the new airport. The plane completed the first commercial air mail delivery here on April 21, 1927, landing at Bettis Field in West Mifflin.

2013: On the first Sunday since the deadly Boston Marathon bombing, churches paused to mourn the dead and console the survivors. In Britain, the London Marathon sent out a powerful message of solidarity with Boston and its victims as runners crossed the line in front of Buckingham Palace wearing black ribbons.

2016: Prince, one of the most inventive and influential musicians of modern times, was found dead at his home in suburban Minneapolis. …
