Bail denied for 19-year-old suspect in Florida high school shooting

A man accused of opening fire at a Florida high school was denied bail during his first court appearance Saturday.

The Ocala Star-Banner reported that Sky Bouche, 19, appeared before Judge Willard Pope via video at the Marion County Jail with a public defender.

Pope said he denied bail due to the nature of the charges against Bouche, which include terrorism, aggravated assault with a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm. A second hearing for Bouche was set for May 22.

Friday's shooting at Forest High School in Ocala happened on a day planned for a national classroom walkout to protest gun violence, and left one person wounded. The shooting comes just over two months after a gunman killed 17 people and wounded 17 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

Homeless man held in restaurant killing - A homeless man is facing a murder charge in what authorities say was a random attack on a California father, who was stabbed as his 5-year-old daughter sat on his lap in a crowded beachside steakhouse.

Jamal Jackson, 49, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Anthony Mele, 35. He was being held in Ventura County jail on a $1.5 million bail. It was unclear Saturday if he had an attorney.

Mele and his wife were eating dinner with their daughter Wednesday at Aloha Steakhouse in Ventura. Prosecutors say Jackson walked up and stabbed Mele in the neck.

Prosecutor Richard Simon said patrons and an employee followed Jackson out of the restaurant. They kept track of him until police arrived.
