HALIFAX. x-18s. Debate is expected to begin today in the House of Commons on a private member's motion calling for a study on the state of Canada's endangered whales -- including right, beluga and killer whales. Karen Ludwig, the Liberal member for New Brunswick Southwest, says she felt compelled to do something after 18 right whales were killed in Canadian and U-S waters last year. Tonya Wimmer of the Marine Animal Response Society says the deaths have been compounded by a lack of new calves.
