MARCO Pierre White's new Manchester restaurant - Mr White's English Chophouse - has opened its doors.

Situated beneath the Velvet Hotel on Canal Street, Mr White's English Chophouse will focus on a menu featuring quality steaks, chops and grills, and tasty pies - created by the original celebrity chef himself.

The Manchester venue is the latest in Marco Pierre White's new Chophouse brand, weeks after the opening in London's Whitechapel.

Bosses say the star chef will be there 'sometimes' - although his days at the pass are long since over as his restaurant empire and TV career has grown.

Main courses include 35-day aged steaks, roast rump of lamb a la Dijonnaise, The Governor's haddock and triple-cooked chips, or a chateaubriand for two.

Starters feature baked camembert, seared sea scallops with black pudding, and duck rillettes.

The puddings include former Blur bassist Alex James' cheese served with homemade drunken fruitcake, and espresso affogato.

Head chef Tom Parkin, who has run the Velvet Restaurant for more than 22 years, will remain in charge of the team under the new brand. …
