NAT141 - (BC-Blood-Law) VANCOUVER. x-14s. British Columbia has introduced legislation to ban payment for blood and plasma. Health Canada says it's legal to pay people for plasma, a component of blood used for life-saving medical treatment. But BloodWatch-dot-org's executive director Kat Lanteign disagrees. She says payment for plasma would go against recommendations made by a retired judge in the 1990s, following an inquiry into a tainted-blood scandal that killed thousands of Canadians.
