REGARDING the building on the Green Belt at Heywood, once again we see the lack of consideration for the environment and the concerns of local residents.

The proposal to build on the green belt in Heywood demonstrates the shortsightedness of the current council.

The Green Party have identified alternatives to the widespread destruction of the Green Belt; measures that should be considered before we allow developers to destroy our environment.

Yes, we do need more housing, but this should predominately be social housing.

We can, and should consider the following measures.

First, make use of our existing houses. Renovate existing empty social (council) housing. Use local firms and local labour, which also gives us a further benefit of local jobs for local people. …
