Jalen Johnson was the first recruit signed by Travis Ford after he took the coaching job at St. Louis University. His addition looked like it would pay dividends for four seasons as the 6-foot-7 forward moved into the starting lineup by the middle of his freshman year.

But Johnson announced Friday on Twitter that he plans to transfer, ending his career at SLU after two seasons, in which he averaged 8.3 points and 4.2 rebounds.

The Baton Rouge, La., native posted a statement Friday morning.

"First off I would like to thank Saint Louis University and the men's basketball coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play for the university," he wrote. "I learned a lot from my two years here in Saint Louis. I would like to thank the fans and the community of Saint Louis for supporting me. …
