ROCHDALE boss Alan Kilshaw has spoken of his pride in seeing a youthful, injury-hit side travel to Dewsbury and snatch a vital victory at the death.

Dec Kay's try inside the final two minutes secured a 32-27 win, only the Hornets' second of the season, and kept the club within touching distance of the sides above them in the Betfred Championship table. "We had nine lads aged 21 or younger," said Kilshaw. "The average age was 23. Take Gaz Middlehurst out of that and the average age is probably 20 or 21.

"I would have been proud even if we got beat. All we asked for was some effort and lads to have a dig for each other, and we certainly got that."

The match came at the end of another tough week for Rochdale.

Less than a month after arriving at the club and with just two appearances under his belt, USA international Taylor Welch was forced into retirement, but Jonah Cunningham's arrival on loan from Leigh Centurions proved pivotal, with the hooker impressive on his debut. …
