Manchester guitarist and songwriter Norman Beaker is rightly regarded as one of the England's greatest Blues talents.

Only last year he achieved the rare distinction of being inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in San Diego, California. It was recognition for a career that started in the early 1970s.

¦ Beaker has recorded with many of the all-time Blues greats, including Jack Bruce, James Booker and Van Morrison.

¦ The Norman Beaker Band has toured with Chuck Berry, Alexis Korner, Jimmy Rogers and BB King.

¦ Born in Manchester in June 1950, Beaker taught himself to play guitar at the age of seven when he was confined to bed for 18 months after a serious car accident.

¦ Five years later he won a holiday camp competition to appear on the Lonnie Donnegan show.

¦ Beaker, whose real name is Norman Hume, formed his first band in 1967. …
