Clayton Firm Thompson Street Starts $1 Billion Private Equity Fund

Thompson Street Capital Partners, a private equity firm based in Clayton, has started raising money toward a new $1.1 billion fund that would make it one of the largest investment tools in the St. Louis area.

The fund is Thompson Street's fifth and its largest to date. It follows previous investment funds by the firm that totaled $640 million and $380 million. Since being founded in 2000, Thompson Street has managed more than $1.5 billion in assets.

To date, according to a federal filing, the money has not yet been raised. Park Hill Group, an asset advisory and fundraising services firm out of New York, is placing the offering.

Jim Cooper, Thompson Street's managing partner, declined to discuss the new fund.

The number of new private equity funds in the U.S. has grown to a record 1,233, according to the latest figures from research firm Preqin. …
