SCANDI-NOIR has become part of our vocabulary over the last few years - and that's all down to shows like The Bridge, which has hooked us in for three gripping series.

But all good things must come to an end, and tonight's fourth run (moved over from BBC4 for the first time) will be the last.

And it looks like there will be no eleventh hour reprieve.

Creative producer Anders Landstrom said: "It is obviously very sad to say goodbye to Saga after four incredible seasons, but our talented writers have an extraordinary end in store for viewers."

It's certainly a shocking and compelling start to the Swedish/Danish series.

In the darkness, underneath the Oresund Bridge, a woman is buried up to her shoulders and is screaming, albeit muffled through gaffer tape.

Later, police on the scene find that someone has stoned her to death - and it took up to 100 blows before she died. …
