tourists bust budgets by £1.9billion HOLIDAY overspending has reached £1.9 billion as two-thirds of British tourists bust the budget they set in resorts abroad, new research says.

Cost remains a key concern in deciding where to travel abroad but research for the 2018 Post Office Travel Money Holiday Spending Report found this has not stopped most British tourists from spending freely once they arrive.

The report shows more than two-thirds of holidaymakers overspent by an average of 27% on their last trip abroad.

Despite this, just 6% will increase their budget for this year's holiday.

The research reveals that while 77% of holidaymakers set a budget for their last trip, less than a third (32%) stuck to it.

On an average budget of £360 per person, the Post Office found that 68% of holidaymakers each spent an average of £98 more than they intended - adding up to a collective budget overspend of around £1. …
