Carrick Makes Final Decision on Wembley Showdown

MICHAEL Carrick has ruled himself out of United's FA Cup final squad after officially taking up his role on manager Jose Mourinho's backroom staff.

Wembley will be the retiring midfielder's first game as a coach after making his Old Trafford farewell during the 1-0 win against Watford on Sunday.

Despite an impressive display - including the pass to set up Marcus Rashford's winner - Carrick insists he will not be in contention for Saturday's clash with Chelsea.

The 36-year-old said: "I am not training this week.

"I am going to jump on the staff. It changes overnight.

"This was the final chance to cut the cloth clean."

With Mourinho's long-time assistant, Rui Faria - who has worked with Mourinho for 17 years - announcing his decision to leave at the end of the season, former midfielder Carrick is expected to eventually fill that vacancy. …
