JOSE Mourinho appeared to take umbrage with Gary Neville's comments about Scott McTominay after United's win over Watford on Sunday.

McTominay, 21, lined up in his second successive Premier League game against the Hornets in what was his 14th start of the season.

Neville was on co-commentary duty during United's goalless draw with West Ham on Thursday night and questioned whether McTominay - who is yet to register a goal or an assist in any of his 25 United appearances - is 'good enough on the ball' in midfield for the club.

Mourinho has lauded McTominay repeatedly this term and named him the manager's player of the year at United's awards event two weeks ago. When asked for his assessment of United's league campaign, Mourinho referred to McTominay.

"It depends on the way you want to analyse it," Mourinho told MUTV of United's season.

"The best position for five years, a huge amount of points that would normally give a fight for the title until the last few weeks, lots of clean sheets, Golden Glove, more goals than last season and the secondbest team in the country. …
