De Gea: 'Finishing Second Simply Not Good Enough'

DAVID de Gea has described United's second-place Premier League finish as 'simply not enough'.

The Reds failed to mount a serious challenge to runaway champions City as Pep Guardiola's men finished in top spot with 100 points - 19 more than Jose Mourinho's men.

Second is the highest United have finished since Sir Alex Ferguson's 2013 retirement but De Gea says it is nothing to write home about.

"I believe that, for a club like United, even second place is simply not enough," De Gea told United Review.

"We have to be fighting hard to win something and we have that opportunity next week [in the FA Cup final against Chelsea].

"You get nothing for coming second or getting close to the league leaders. In the end, you always have to be fighting to win something, as that's what this club and the fans really deserve and so it's just that - second place is not enough. …
