Police Want Review of Licence at Chinatown Restaurant

A POPULAR restaurant in Manchester's Chinatown is set to have its premises licence reviewed on 'crime and disorder' grounds.

Police have applied for the council to review Pearl City's licence over alleged 'illegal working', according to the council's website.

The listing doesn't give any further details about the venue, on George Street, where staff declined to comment on the issue.

Earlier this year, Pearl City was raided by immigration officers who made nine arrests.

Five women and four men, all Chinese nationals, were held during the operation in January.

At the time, the Home Office said those arrested were suspected of working illegally and had been detained 'pending their removal from the UK'.

A spokesman said checks found five had entered the UK illegally and four had overstayed their visas. …
