Caretaker Gets the Gig at Centurions after Great Run of Wins

LEIGH have confirmed caretaker Kieron Purtill as the club's new head coach on a permanent basis.

The former Centurions captain took temporary charge following the departure of Neil Jukes after a poor start to the season, with owner Derek Beaumont vowing to scour the world to find the right candidate.

But Purtill has overseen 11 consecutive wins and this run has seen Leigh progress to the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup and bring themselves within touching distance of a crucial top four spot in the Betfred Championship.

"I haven't been actively seeking a coach for some time as I have been satisfied with Kieron's performance and the feedback I have received from the senior players, alongside the results on the pitch," admitted Beaumont.

"Kieron has earned the title of head coach and when watching the game against Salford and hearing him referred to as caretaker, I didn't feel that was right and thought it was disrespectful to him when I have no intentions of replacing him in the role. …
