Grant Boosts Oakland Nonprofit's Land Trust

The Oakland Planning and Development Corp. has been awarded a $300,000 grant from McAuley Ministries to develop its nascent land trust in West Oakland.

The grant, payable over three years, rewards the nonprofit for its efforts to provide affordable housing.

Elly Fisher, assistant director of the OPDC, said the money "gets the land trust off the ground."

Oakland's community land trust has, to date, sold one house, with two others for sale and two being renovated now. One house for sale at 246 Dunseith St. will be open to the public from 2 to 4 p.m. June 3.

Houses in a land trust sell with income restrictions in perpetuity. The organization that administers the land trust owns the land, which the buyer of the home leases. …
