ST. CHARLES COUNTY - Next winter, the site of the former Riverside Harbor along the Mississippi River will get a major makeover that will include new campsites, a pavilion, a water play area, a new boat ramp, new docks, a kayak launch area and new restrooms, county officials said.

The St. Charles County Parks Department, which bought the 7.73-acre property in March, envisions the rechristened Riverside Landing will serve to promote outdoor activities such as boating, fishing and canoeing on the Mississippi River and Dardenne Creek in the area known as Alton Lake.

The St. Charles County Council will vote on a design services contract on Tuesday. If the design services contract is approved, the new park will open in 2019. Officials said they don't yet have an estimated cost of construction for the renovations.
