A Rainbow of Colors Blenko Glass Breaks out New Color and Shapes

Paw Paw is the newest color for Blenko Glass, a West Virginia maker of hand-blown art and stained glass since 1921.

"We try to do a new color each year," said Walter Blenko Jr., president of Blenko Glass.

This creamy yellow one gets its name and hue from the custard-apple-mango-tasting fruit that grows on trees across the eastern U.S. There's even a town in West Virginia named Paw Paw.

Blenko has a factory is in Milton, W.Va., and regularly comes out with new designs. The latest is Spires, a vase shape with an elongated neck reaching approximately 26 inches. Mr. Blenko and his wife Patti have two in their home in Hampton, along with a collection of unusual and vintage pieces.

"Because everything is hand-blown, each piece is unique like a signature. No two are the same," Mr. Blenko said.

Also new is the Block decanter, which comes in small, medium and large and is available in several colors. …
