Regarding "Trump Administration Defends Keystone XL Pipeline in Court" (May 24 post-gazette.com):The tar sands of Canada are one of the dirtiest, most carbon-intensive fuels on the planet. Tar sands oil produces between 17 percent and 21 percent more carbon dioxide emissions than oil from other sources. The Keystone XL pipeline would allow the use of this dirty fuel to accelerate. The true cost of this dirty fuel is not represented by its price at the pump.

We need to put a price on greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels. The current price of fossil fuels does not include the adverse health impacts from poor air quality - children hospitalized for asthma attacks, increased lung cancer incidence and increased cardiovascular disease. The current price does not include damage from the increased intensity of storms due to climate change. …
