CITY captain Vincent Kompany will be going to the World Cup in Russia despite picking up an injury days ago.

Belgium's national team manager, Roberto Martinez, named his final 24-man squad for the tournament and Kompany has made the cut.

He has fought his way through a number of injuries this season to be fit in time for the tournament, but felt his groin after a challenge with Portugal's Gelson Martins, and will have to be assessed over the next week to determine whether he will be able to play in Russia.

"Until 24 hours before Belgium vs Panama we can still make a replacement," Martinez explained.

"We need to wait a period of seven, eight days with Vincent Kompany. Then we will get a good opportunity to make a diagnosis."

Martinez also explained the importance of having the 32-year-old with the squad even if he is injured. …
