DETROIT — The painful history between Giancarlo Stanton and Mike Fiers resurfaced on Monday night, nearly causing another bench-clearing incident between the Yankees and Tigers.

An angered Stanton jawed at Fiers, whose 89 mph fastball hit the Yankees' slugger in the left forearm in the third inning at Comerica Park, the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader.

Instantly, Stanton flashed back to 2014, when a Fiers' fastball struck him in the face, a horrific season-ending injury.

"If that happens before (and) you're going to come in, make sure it doesn't hit me," said Stanton, whose titanic, sixth-inning home run off Fiers wasn't enough to prevent a 4-2 Tigers win.

Before their five-game winning streak was snapped, the Yankees won the opener, 7-4. Stanton acknowledged that Fiers wasn't throwing at him, but made no apologies for his emotions. …
