(Eastern-Ont-Crash)

Ontario provincial police say 24 people were taken to hospital, including four with life-threatening injuries, after a bus carrying Chinese tourists crashed on Highway 4-0-1 near Prescott.

Operated by Massachusetts-based Union Tour Express, the bus had 37 people onboard when it went off the westbound lanes and hit a rock cut alongside the road east of Brockville.

It's not known yet what may have caused the single-vehicle crash.

Mandarin translators were called into action at Ottawa's Queensway-Carleton Hospital and Brockville General Hospital where most patients were taken.(2)

(Woman-Baby-Well-Being)

Police in rural northern New Brunswick are searching for an Ontario woman and her newborn baby they say was possibly delivered in a motel room.

R-C-M-P received a report from the Quality Inn Motel in Saint-Andre, New Brunswick that a woman is believed to have delivered a baby in one of the rooms being rented, prior to May 25th.

They say no one has seen the woman or the baby, and there is concern for their well-being.

Police say 30-year-old Michael Bonnell and his wife, 26-year-old Yuyang Guan, could be headed to Peterborough, Ontario, driving a 2013 white Ford Edge. (2)

(Wettlaufer-Inquiry)(Audio:01)

A public inquiry will get under way today in St. Thomas, Ontario, examining the circumstances in a disturbing serial murder case in southwestern Ontario.

The inquiry led by Ontario Court of Appeal judge Eileen Gillese will probe the systemic failures that allowed nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer to inject more than a dozen elderly patients with overdoses of insulin while working at long-term care homes and private residences for nearly a decade.

Wettlaufer's undetected crimes only came to light when she confessed them to mental-health workers and police.

She pleaded guilty last year to eight counts of first-degree murder, four of attempted murder and two of aggravated assault and was sentenced to life in prison without parole for 25 years. …
