New Brunswick's Transportation Minister is apologizing for a letter sent to francophone municipalities that said rainbow crosswalks would not be approved until a national safety study is complete.

Bill Fraser says the wrong version of the letter was sent out in error, and that the colourful crosswalks to celebrate the L-G-B-T-Q community will be allowed in the province's municipalities after all.

He says the province promotes inclusion in all communities and will allow the crosswalks if they meet current standards.

Fraser says he encourages municipalities to use white stripes between the various colours to improve visibility. (The Canadian Press)



U-S border patrol officers have charged three Canadians with unlawful entry after they were seen walking in northern Maine.

According to court documents filed with the U-S District Court in Bangor, Maine, the three were apprehended on May 31st near Houlton, Maine, not far from the border crossing at Woodstock, New Brunswick.

A border patrol agent says in an affidavit that the three were seen carrying backpacks on the Canadian side of the border on a road parallel to the boundary before they were spotted on a road in Maine that leads away from the border.

The U-S border agency alleges Jesse Christopher Leblanc, Chelsey Ann Fitch and Aaron Byron Cumberland crossed the border, and that Cumberland is facing child exploitation charges in Nova Scotia. (The Canadian Press)



A newborn baby suspected to have been born in a New Brunswick motel room is now in the care of the province's Department of Social Development.

Police say an Ontario couple was arrested and that Michael Bonnell has been charged with two counts of failing to provide the necessities of life, while Yuyang Guan is charged with one count of failing to provide the necessities of life. …
