World leaders are already beginning to arrive in Canada ahead of tomorrow's start of the two-day G-7 Leaders Summit in La Malbaie, Quebec.

Prime Minister Trudeau welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron to Parliament Hill yesterday, and the two will meet today about some of their common interests, including their ire over punishing new trade tariffs by U-S President Donald Trump.

Trump is expected to arrive for the summit in La Malbaie tomorrow, where he will also hold one-on-one meetings with Trudeau and other G-7 leaders.

Trump's economic adviser Larry Kudlow says allies should understand that Trump "will do what is necessary to protect the U-S, its businesses and its workforce,'' adding Trump has always said "tariffs are a tool in that effort.'' (4)

(Alta-Suzuki-Controversy)

After months of criticism, David Suzuki will receive an honorary degree from the University of Alberta today.

In April, the university announced that the longtime environmentalist would be one of 13 people to receive the honour this spring.

The announcement led to criticism from two of the school's deans, some professors, donors and alumni -- particularly those connected to the oil and gas industry.

But the university has stood by its decision, citing academic integrity and independence. (4)

(Amaya-Baazov-Trial)

A Quebec judge has pulled the plug on one of the largest insider-trading cases in Canadian history involving the former C-E-O of online gaming company Amaya.

Six weeks into the trial, Judge Salvatore Mascia granted the defence's third motion to stay proceedings against David Baazov and a co-accused, in response to the defence's claim it was inadvertently given 320-thousand privileged documents it shouldn't have seen.

The prosecution wanted them back.
