MARYLAND HEIGHTS > Fire damages apartment building - A Maryland Heights apartment building was badly damaged in a Sunday morning fire. Firefighters from at least 10 departments worked to put out the four-alarm blaze in the three-story building.

The Maryland Heights Fire Protection District received the call about the fire at Woodhollow Apartments at 7:15 a.m. Residents of 36 apartments were evacuated after the fire started in a second-floor apartment, said Maryland Heights Capt. Robert Daus. The flames went to the third floor of the building, then ran the length of an attic space, he said.

One resident, Jennifer Creek, 37, said she saw a resident in a second-floor apartment climb on the railing of his balcony and jump; other residents caught him. Firefighters used ladders to rescue some residents. …
