1996 JUNE 15: Windows are left blown out in Manchester city centre on Saturday morning after the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) detonated a 3,000lb bomb at 11.17am.

The bomb, left in a van in Corporation Street, was the biggest detonated in Great Britain since World War II.

The IRA had telephoned warnings 90 minutes earlier and around 75,000 people were evacuated from the area. More than 200 were injured but there were no fatalities.

Insurers estimated that the attack caused £700 million damage.
