Oradell Home Destroyed in Blaze

ORADELL — A fire destroyed a multi-story house on Kinderkamack Road on Tuesday.

The fire started around 6 p.m. Heavy black smoke and flames could be seen shooting out of the building shortly after the fire began.

Fire Chief Brian Bonte said the fire remained under investigation but declined to provide further comment.

Lt. Richard Zdanowicz of the Oradell Police Department said there were no fatalities, but he deferred to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office for further information. Messages left for the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Bergen County Sheriff's Office did not draw a response Tuesday night.

Although there was no official word of injuries, Hudson Yahr, who lives nearby, said, "I watched a few people try to get resuscitated."

The Oradell resident said the fire seemed spread quickly.

"I smelled some smoke and immediately came down here. ... I walked past an inferno," Yahr said. "Literally, five minutes after I smelled it, the house was engulfed."

Debbie Barr was in a convenience store across the street when she heard something that sounded like lightning. …
