The former chair of the federal cannabis task force is warning the industry to play by the rules when recreational marijuana is legalized.

Anne McLellan told weed producers Monday that they could face pushback from the government and communities if they don't.

The former federal justice minister was speaking at the World Cannabis Congress in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Type 1 diabetes takes a lot of effort to manage, but a study has found teens often face even greater problems because of the stigma of having the life-threatening disease.

Dr. Kaberi Dasgupta of the McGill University Health Centre makes the findings in a study published today in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

Dasgupta and colleagues found that a sense of stigma can lead many young people to be neglectful of their diabetes health, putting them at potential risk of both short- and long-term complications.

The study involved 380 Canadians aged 14 to 24, who responded to a web-based questionnaire about their experiences.

Participants were largely recruited through social media, and their involvement included providing a blood sample that was checked for glucose levels.

Dasgupta reports nearly two thirds of respondents reported experiencing some form of diabetes-related stigma. (The Canadian Press)



The federal government is looking to reduce its use of plastic as it pursues a national strategy to curb Canada's addiction to the materials.

At the G-7 summit over the weekend, Canada and four other nations signed a charter that commits to keeping plastic out of landfills by 2040.
