Dispersal Order Issued as Youths Go on Rampage

A LARGE gang of youths is running riot in Eccles during the evenings, according to police.

Officers say they are shoplifting, carrying out attacks and intimidating residents in the town centre.

Now police are urging parents to keep an eye on their kids and have promised to take action, warning: "The five-oh will be coming to a front door near you soon."

They admit they are outnumbered by the trouble-causing youths but promise to track them down using CCTV.

A senior officer agreed to impose a 'dispersal order' under which potential trouble-makers are told they must leave and not return for 48 hours.

In a post on its Facebook page, GMP Eccles wrote an open letter to parents.

It said: "Dear parents of children in the Salford area, do you know where your children are going in the evening? "We are currently having issues with large numbers of youths accumulating in Eccles town centre from teatime onwards. Members of this group are causing issues including shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and some assaults have been reported amongst other things. The group are also intimidating often Our friends very skilled on your faces who most GMP Eccles expect a knock vulnerable members of the community.

"This behaviour will not be tolerated and we have identified a number of individuals who will be dealt with including issuing civil injunctions, arrest and charge and are also working with housing to target families of individuals."

It also addressed the youths themselves, adding: "Dear children who are choosing to hang around in Eccles Town Centre in the evening... We strongly advise that you find somewhere else to go in smaller groups. You may well outnumber the police officers and be able to run away, but our friends in CCTV are very skilled at zooming in on your faces and we know who most of you are.

"The five-oh will be coming to a front door near you soon. …
