¦ June 23, 1991: Croatian Goran Ivanisevic wins the Manchester Open tennis tournament after beating Pete Sampras in the final 6-4, 6-4. The annual grasscourt tournament, held at the Northern Lawn Tennis Club in Didsbury, was first played in 1880.

It was part of the Grand Prix circuit from 1970 to 1989 and part of the AP Tour from 1990 to 1994.

Sampras won his first grass court title at the Manchester Open in 1990.

Other winners have included Jimmy Connors, Tom Okker, John McEnroe and Stefan Edberg.

The tournament was abolished in 2009.
