THE Manchester Open is back on the PGA North Region circuit today after a three-year absence.

The tournament will be played over 36 holes and two days on the expansive Harry Colt lay-out at the Manchester club in Middleton.

Colt also designed Royal Lytham and the West Course at Wentworth, among many others, which gives you an idea of the challenge lying ahead of a field of more than 100.

You can see Manchester city centre, Oldham and Rochdale from a pristine course of 6,670 yards undulating through a 250-acre valley set in moorland and heathland. No two holes run side by side.

The club hosted the 2017 England Under-14 Boys, the Reid Trophy, and was voted among the top three courses who put on last year's various national championships for England Golf. Seven former winners are competing - defending champion Grant Hamerton plus Jonathan Cheetham, David Smith, Chris Sands, Aran Wainwright, David Shacklady, a current European Senior Tour player, and Alex Belt. …
