UNITED are hopeful of signing an England international for their women's team next season.

The M.E.N. previously revealed new United manager Casey Stoney has agreed deals for 17 players and sources say the club is eager to recruit 'a top young English player' in addition to a senior Lioness.

United plan to announce their first raft of signings in July.

Stoney, who spent the last two years of her playing career at Liverpool, could acquire former teammates Martha Harris and Amy Turner after they were released by the Anfield club. United are set to make several Women's Super League 1 signings and pad the squad out with WSL 2 players and academy talents.

The M.E.N. understands United technical director John Murtough has held extensive talks with intermediaries to assemble a full squad ahead of the WSL 2 season, which starts on September 8 and 9. …
