Steve Kloehn is resigning as Carnegie Mellon University's vice president for marketing and communications after three years in the job, effective June 30, officials said.

Mr. Kloehn came to Carnegie Mellon in April 2015 from the University of Chicago, where he was associate vice president for news and public affairs.

A statement provided by the university Friday did not specify Mr. Kloehn's plans. A call to his cell phone Thursday was not immediately returned.

"I am grateful for his leadership in building the marketing and communications division and coordinating efforts with professionals across the university to enhance CMU's brand and reputation," said Farnam Jahanian, who in March was named Carnegie Mellon president. "I have asked Scott Mory, vice president for university advancement, to lead marketing and communications until a full search can be completed for this critical unit. …
