(Khill Trial)

Defence and prosecution lawyers are clashing today over whether a Hamilton-area homeowner's military training justified his fatal shooting of a man who broke into his truck at night.

Peter Khill admits he killed Jon Styres with two shotgun blasts in the early morning of February 4th, 2016, but has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder, saying he fired in self-defence, believing Styres was pointing a gun at him.

His lawyer says his client reacted proactively but the Crown says Khill's army experience should have taught him never to charge into an uncertain situation. (The Canadian Press)

The judge-alone trial has heard that the older Millard was found with a bullet lodged in his brain -- the coroner and police initially ruled the death a suicide. (The Canadian Press)

The organization says the Toronto Love Project was initiated by local artist Berene Campbell and features long quilted banners "stitched with messages of hope, peace and love. …
