District, Teachers Union Agree on Three-Year Pact

The East Allegheny school board and teachers union have approved a new three-year teachers contract.

Lila Sedlak, secretary to the superintendent, said the school board voted to approve the contract during a special meeting on June 19, and the teachers union voted to approve it the next day.

According to a district press release, over the course of the three-year agreement, average raises will be 1.5 percent, health care contributions will be capped at $185 per month, and three student days will be added to the school year.

In a news release, East Allegheny Education Association President Kathy Chenot said, "The teachers are very pleased with the agreement, and overall, I am glad that our team was able to work so well with the school board to get a fair agreement. …
