Olivette City Council Triples Pay for Future Members

OLIVETTE > Council triples pay for future members - The Olivette City Council on Tuesday night approved tripling the monthly pay for council members starting with those elected next April.

The move will raise pay for council members -- including the mayor, whom council members appoint each year from among themselves -- to $300 a month.

City Manager Barbara Sondag said that the $100 pay rate had been in place since 2006.

She said the first pay increase will go to the people elected to two council posts for three-year terms in April. The raise will then be given to the next two council members elected in April 2020, and, finally, to the person elected to the open post on the April 2021 ballot.

Sondag has said council members, while not being compensated for their skills, talent or time, are being paid to offset any financial barriers or burdens facing anyone wanting to serve. …
