Muscle Injury Rules Mendy out of World Cup Tie with Argentina

BENJAMIN Mendy has been ruled out of France's World Cup showdown with Argentina.

The City left-back, who missed the majority of the Blues' recordbreaking season with a serious knee injury, is struggling with a muscle problem.

Mendy is understood to have sustained the injury when taking a shot in training on Wednesday.

France boss Didier Deschamps confirmed the 23-year-old's absence from today's last 16 tie.

"Benjamin Mendy will not be available," Deschamps said. "He has a little muscle problem."

Mendy has been a substitute for all three of France's games so far but came off the bench in Tuesday's bore draw against Denmark and banked 40 minutes of game time.

He is believed to be in with a chance of playing in the quarterfinals, should France make it that far. …
