A SCHOOL caught up in the devastating moorland fire above Stalybridge is appealing for donations of air conditioning units.

Buckton Vale Primary School, near Carrbrook, wasn't able to open on Friday although neighbouring Bright Futures Day Nursery did open.

Both are close to the raging moorland fire on Saddleworth Moor and homes on Calico Crescent, which were evacuated after a major incident was declared.

Buckton Vale headteacher, Deborah Brown, appealed for air conditioning units or large fans. Current health advice suggests all doors and windows should be kept closed as air quality is being monitored constantly.

Mrs Brown said that unless Public Health England alter the official guidance, the school wouldn't be able to open unless it was cool enough inside. …
